Family Matters & the Arts

We have supported our Family Matters programme and have worked in Aylesbury Young Offender Institution, Reading Prison and in the community.

Our work in Reading supported Ballads of Reading Jail – a project managed by Company Paradiso Productions in partnership with BBC Radio Berkshire, and culminating in a week of broadcasts on BBC Radio Berkshire during April 2009. The project’s aims were to help reduce re-offending through reflection and creativity, and to profile the young writers as young people struggling to understand their own lives and move forward positively.  This piece of work won a Gold Award in the Community section of the Sony Radio Awards.   A digital version of the publication is now available  – Ballads of Reading Jail 40

During 2010 we also supported Company Paradiso with their second radio project, looking at mental health issues.  Entitled “Warning may contains nuts”, this work used words and lyrics to look at issues surrounding mental health and provided participants with a platform for performance and publication.
